Dr Selva Ramachandran presents research on accessible technologies at international conference

Dr Selva Ramachandran, Departmental Tutor at Oxford Lifelong Learning, recently presented his research on inclusive technologies at an international conference in New York.

On Friday 13 March 2026, Dr Ramachandran spoke at the Disability Rights & Inclusion: The 3rd Annual Conference, hosted by Touro University’s Jewish Law Institute. The conference brought together academics, practitioners and policymakers to explore advances in accessibility and inclusion.

In his talk, Dr Ramachandran examined how emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR), can be used to enhance accessibility for people with disabilities and children with special educational needs (SEN). He highlighted the potential of multimodal AI systems – integrating text, images and video – to create more inclusive and adaptive learning environments.

The presentation was well received by delegates and led to a number of new international connections, supporting ongoing research and innovation in this field.

Alongside his academic work, Dr Ramachandran has been developing Eyemmersive Binah AI, a platform designed specifically for children with special educational needs. Following a year of research and development, the platform has recently entered beta testing in the United States, where it is being trialled with parents, carers and schools.

Dr Ramachandran teaches on the Undergraduate Advanced Diploma in IT Systems Analysis and Design (ADITSAD) at Oxford, where he brings current developments in AI and digital innovation into his teaching. His participation in the conference reflects Oxford Lifelong Learning’s engagement with global discussions on accessibility and inclusion, and the growing role of emerging technologies in supporting more equitable learning experiences.
