This course will introduce the techniques of group coaching, including: understanding processes that a group and its members are experiencing; managing evolving dynamics between members, and with the 'task'; maintaining focus without leading.
Group coaching is one of the fastest-growing and most versatile areas in the coaching profession. More subtle than training, more profound than facilitating, and more flexible than chairing—group coaching enables deeper connection, shared learning, and scalable impact. In this course, we explore the dynamic blend of relational intelligence, practical structure, and creative responsiveness that makes group coaching so powerful. Whether you're looking to sharpen your existing skills or explore group coaching for the first time, this course will help you apply key concepts to your own context.
We will use a fully blended learning approach, including virtual learning environments (VLE), discursive and experiential activities, and guided tutorials. Together, we’ll explore the core components of group coaching—contracting, boundaries, psychological safety, and group dynamics—while also engaging with emerging themes like neurodiversity, digital delivery, and hybrid working models.
This course is suitable for coaches, trainers, facilitators, consultants, and professionals who work with groups or teams. You'll have the opportunity to develop your personal style, practise new techniques, and reflect on your performance in real-world scenarios. By the end, you’ll feel more confident and capable of delivering powerful group coaching experiences—in your workplace, in your practice, or in wider community settings.
This course is part of the Oxford University Summer School for Adults (OUSSA) programme.
