Introduction to Networks and Cybersecurity

Overview

This beginner-friendly day school provides an engaging and accessible introduction to the interconnected worlds of cybersecurity and computer networking. As the digital landscape continues to expand, cyber threats increasingly affect individuals, businesses, governments, and educational institutions alike. This event is designed to help participants understand how to safeguard their personal digital presence while also developing an awareness of the broader cybersecurity challenges that organisations face in today’s hyperconnected world.

We will explore key cybersecurity principles, such as data protection, threat detection, and digital privacy, with a focus on how these elements are applied in real-world contexts. The event also examines current trends in cybercrime and highlights the importance of building resilience against online attacks.

In addition to cybersecurity, the event introduces core networking fundamentals including the OSI and TCP/IP models, IP addressing schemes (IPv4 and IPv6), switching, and routing. These foundational topics help learners understand how modern networks are structured and function.

Whether you are looking to enhance your personal knowledge or considering a future career in the field, this event offers a solid starting point. No prior technical background is required just curiosity and a desire to better understand the digital world around you.

Please note: this event will close to enrolments at 23:59 GMT on 3 December 2025.
