In-person weekly classes

Learn in Oxford. Be inspired for life.

Explore a new topic or further your knowledge with Oxford University

Explore your interests in historic Oxford through engaging, in-person short courses that open doors to future learning, inspire personal growth and enable lasting connections with a vibrant and collaborative community.

Courses run between 5-10 weeks and are led by tutors selected for their expertise and dedication to the exceptional teaching you expect from a world-class university.

We offer two types of in-person weekly classes:

  • Accredited courses: engage in undergraduate-level study and, if you wish, register to submit coursework/assignments for assessment, in order to receive feedback from the tutor and gain academic credit (CATS points). If you choose to opt for assessment and credit then you will also receive a digital certificate of completion upon successfully completing the course.
  • Non-accredited courses: these courses are not accredited and do not require coursework. Digital badges of attendance are provided upon successful completion.

Please note: enrolments may close up to one week prior to the start date of the course. We recommend you book early to avoid disappointment.

Where will my class take place?

Join us in central Oxford or Summertown

The majority of our weekly classes take place at either of our two locations in Oxford.

  • Ewert House, Ewert Place, Banbury Road, Summertown, Oxford, OX2 7DD
  • Rewley House, 1 Wellington Square, Oxford, OX1 2JA

Some courses also include field trips.

Full details of where your class will be held can be found on each course page.

What level are weekly classes taught at?

Level and demands

Nearly all weekly classes are entry-level university courses, taught at FHEQ Level 4 (equivalent to the same level of teaching as the first year of undergraduate study). Most, therefore, require no prior knowledge, but only interest and an enthusiasm to learn. Where prior knowledge will help, this will be clearly indicated on the course page.

What changes have been made to the weekly classes programme for 2025-26?

Courses shaped by you

We recently reviewed our short courses programme to ensure that it remains relevant for those who study with us. This included a comprehensive survey and focus groups with our students, where we gained valuable insight into the on-course experience.

Taking feedback into account, we have launched a new in-person weekly class programme, resulting in a few changes. These include offering different course lengths to suit the commitments of our students and a fairer pricing structure.

  • Accredited in-person weekly classes: students now have the choice to take these courses for assessment and credit (CATS points), rather than have the assessment fee automatically included in the course fee (as it was previously). If you choose to take the course for assessment and credit, then an additional fee of £60 will be incurred at the time of booking the course. We offer this choice because most students on the programme choose not to opt for assessment, and we wish to ensure a fair fee structure to acknowledge this. The total cost of a course if taken for assessment and credit is the same price as our online short courses that have this automatically included in the course fee.
  • Non-accredited in-person weekly classes: as most students do not opt to take our weekly classes for credit, we have increased the range of non-accredited weekly classes to meet this demand, including more 5-week courses.
