Edward Hadas
Edward Hadas is a Research Fellow at Blackfriars Hall, Oxford University. He also teaches philosophy, economics, and social theory to visiting American undergraduates. He is the author of Money, Finance, Reality, Morality (2022) and Counsels of Imperfection: Thinking through Catholic Social Teaching (2020).

Migration is a contentious political issue in many countries. We’ll look for the facts about the economics of changing countries, with an eye on questions of assimilation, nationalism, and justice. Expect some lively debates.
Does technology control us? Do experts and billionaires actually run the world? We’ll try to answer those questions by looking at some serious cultural, technical and political critiques of modern societies and governments.
Is capitalism better than socialism? How do we decide? Can democracy thrive under either, or both? How do bureaucracy and technocracy fit in? We will try to answer these questions by looking at the political economy of several countries.
What’s love got to do with it? With what? And what is love, anyway? Philosophers are not mostly very romantic, but they have some interesting ideas about love. We’ll look at sexual and romantic love, but also the love of God, beauty, family and friends.
Explore the challenges of global economic development – explore theories and engage with the controversies shaping the gap between rich and poor countries. Topics include globalisation, migration, urbanisation and foreign aid.
